With World Read Aloud Day winding down, we are anticipating the next global literacy event which is right around the corner....especially since this is one of our favorite literacy celebrations every year!
On May 2nd through the 8th we will be celebrating Children's Book Week with our friends at Every Child a Reader. Every year events take place in school libraries, book stores, public libraries, school communities and homes which celebrate the opportunity all children have to read. And this is one more opportunity for us as teacher librarians and educators to put wonderful children's literature into the hands of the children we work with everyday.
On the Children's Book Week website, you can now find the annual poster which was created by author, illustrator and former animation artist Brian Won.
Read all about Brian Won and his new book Hooray for Hat on his website here.
And super soon the Children's Book Week bookmark will be available!
For now, check out the previous bookmarks and print them off for your CBW celebration. It is easy to do with a little heavy paper, scissors and a lot of tiny hands to put them into their books.
Check back here soon for the bookmark.....or to get to the others.
Over the years I celebrated with my students in lots of different ways. You can read about one of them here and see how we created Haiku Decks with some of our favorite books.
Happy World Read Aloud Day friends! I can't wait to celebrate CBW in a few weeks with all of you too.
