A Special Choice Board For Students To Learn About Wildfires and Firefighters

Our students have lots of questions about the wildfires in California over the last week.  I wanted to create a place where they can learn about wildfires and also more about firefighters.

I went to pebblego.com to look for PebbleGo articles and eBooks that would support this topic.  They have an article about Wildfires and Firefighters that I included.

When I looked up what was available in eBooks, I found four that I included on the choice board.
A very special one I included is Fire Flight, A Wildfire Escape, by Cedar Pruitt.

As shared on the Capstone site

Flames consume a forest, and an owl seeks refuge. Helicopter wings chop, and water drops to drench the branches below. Using spare, lyrical language, this debut picture book takes readers inside the journey of a screech owl that fled the flames to ride along with a firefighting helicopter during the 2020 California Creek wildfire. Vivid imagery highlights the fear and danger of the experience—as well as an astonishing moment of connection.

This is available in print and eBook.  We have it in our library too.
Today on Instagram, Jarrett Learner, shared this firefighter thank you that anyone can copy and use. Thank you, Jarrett. This will be an important activity for our students to be part of within our communities.

You can find it on Jarrett's website here.

You will find the choice board template here. It will have you make a copy so you can add your own links and resources.
To share it with your students, go to File, Share and Publish to the web. That is the link you will share.
