Our readers have been taking a journey through our library this year with their reading passport. It's been so fun to see how excited they are about this reading journey.
With our new Destiny Self Check Out stand, our students needed a library card to scan each time they checked out books.
You can read all about the Destiny Self Check Out here in this post.
My library assistant, Natasha, found this card holder that she uses with each class as they come to check out books. The students can come to the library and find their own library card from the card holder. On the back of their library cards, Natasha made a sticker which includes all of the different genre areas of our library. These are the images of the spine label stickers we have on our books within each genre area. When they come to the library for weekly book checkout, they focus on a different genre area each time.
The students get a little sticker to place over that genre area so they can keep track of what genres they have checked out. They don't have to check out from that area but have options since they can check out more than one book at a time.
When they get four in a row on the card, they get to pick a sticker from our special sticker box.
I love how the students see this sign when they walk into our library... Favorite Stops on our Reading Journey. It shows them all of the different books they have read throughout the year.
This is a wonderful library activity that has made a big difference with our readers this year. We are lucky to have Natasha encouraging reading with our students every week.
