One of my favorite weeks of the year is Children's Book Week, which is on May 4-11, 2020 this year. Children's Book Week is a week long celebration that has been taking place since 1919.
As the Every Child Is A Reader website states,
Children’s Book Week originated in the belief that children’s books and literacy are life-changers. In 1913, Franklin K. Matthiews, the librarian of the Boy Scouts of America, began touring the country to promote higher standards in children’s books. He proposed creating a Children’s Book Week, which would be supported by all interested groups: publishers, booksellers, and librarians.
Every Child Is A Reader, along with their amazing partners, brings children, teachers, libraries and communities wonderful resources and information to make Children's Book Week special for everyone.
This week they have made it possible for all of us to celebrate Children's Book Week with our students, families and communities virtually. I was very happy to see the information and resources they have created and put on the site.
You will find these virtual celebration resources here.
In addition to these virtual celebration event resources, there are lots of other awesome 2020 Children's Book Week resources that you will find here.
As shared on the site, This year’s poster is designed by Carin Berger, an award-winning designer and illustrator. The 2020 poster features this year’s Children’s Book Week slogan, Read. Dream. Share. which focuses on sharing the love of reading on a community level.
You will find the poster here,
along with an activity packet....
...that you will find here. We can share this with our students and families so they download and do at home.
There are also 6 bookmarks created by illustrators we love.
And kids will love the coloring sheets!

I added the link to the Children's Book Week coloring sheets to the Coloring Fun Collection by Destiny too.
Over the next few weeks, I will be creating and pulling together our virtual Children's Book Week Celebration at Van Meter. I can't wait to see what all of you will be doing to celebrate too.
