As we prepare to return to learn this fall, we are working to create and share learning experiences for all students learning at school and remotely. As teachers, we want to make sure our students continue to have access to wonderful books and meaningful learning activities and experiences.
Our friends at Capstone have announced a special new project that will help fill these needs and bring equitable access to our youngest learners, in kindergarten through 3rd grade, and their families.
It is called Capstone at Home and consists of take-home book packs with activities.
In each packet, there is a fiction and nonfiction Capstone book focused around an age-appropriate theme such as school, the library, space, robots and community.
There are 5 activities that tie into the theme and books with clear instructions and critical thinking prompts to help students and families complete them with success at home. These activities will help students make important literacy connections while writing, drawing, creating, cooking, playing, experimenting and more along the way.
On the Capstone at Home page from the Capstone site, you will find the packs they have for kindergarten,
first grade,
second grade and...
...third grade.
I am looking forward to sharing these with our students and families this year. These fill such an important need for our students and will be a way for them to stay connected to reading and learning throughout the year if they are learning at home, especially for those with limited access to technology and internet.
You can find Capstone at Home here too.
