Safer Internet Day With Google & Be Internet Awesome! Coming Up On February 11, Friends!

On February 11, we celebrate Safer Internet Day and we are going to be celebrating with...
...Be Internet Awesome from Google.
On Monday, the teachers at Van Meter will receive a special Safer Internet Day Bag.  Inside they will find the Be Internet Awesome curriculum book, stickers, little treats and more.

I am excited to get these bags into the hands of all teachers as everyone of us needs to support our digital citizens in so many ways.
Be Internet Awesome will help as it focuses on 5 fundamentals of digital citizenship to be successful and confident about exploring the digital world. And it is available free every single day, not just on Safer Internet Day.
Google worked with experts in the field to develop the Be Internet Awesome curriculum and resources including the ones above.
It has also received the ISTE Seal of Alignment and AASL Best Website recognition.
On the Be Internet Awesome site, you will find all of the materials you need to bring this amazing program to your students, community and families. As the site states,

To make the most of the Internet, kids need to be prepared to make smart decisions. Be Internet Awesome teaches kids the fundamentals of digital citizenship and safety so they can explore the online world with confidence.
It is focused around 5 fundamentals of the Internet Code of Awesome.  They include Share With Care,
 Don't Fall For Fake,
 Secure Your Secrets,
 It's Cool To Be Kind,
and When In Doubt, Talk It Out.
In the Be Internet Awesome Curriculum, teachers will find lesson plans and classroom activities that bring the fundamental lessons to life.
Especially as they play, Interland where they Play Safe, Learn Safe and Stay Safe through the 5 fundamentals.
On the Digital Safety Resources Tools for the Classroom, there are several wonderful resources....take a look at these!

You will find them all here
And I LOVE the Ready-to-Teach Pear Deck Interactive Google Slides for each of the five Be Internet Awesome lessons.
These can be found here.
And we can't forget how it brings families into this conversation as they work through the Be Internet Awesome Pledge.
There is even a place for everyone to sign.  You will find the BIA Pledge here

As you can see, Be Internet Awesome is loaded with awesome resources that we can use all year long within our libraries, classrooms and of course throughout the community.
Safer Internet Day is the perfect day to kick it off!

Feel free to make a copy of this card as you spread the word about Safer Internet Day and Be Internet Awesome to your community too.

Have a wonderful Safer Internet Day, friends.
