Happy National Library Week! Here Is A Special Collection To Help Us Celebrate All Year Long!

National Library Week is here and we will be celebrating all week long...April 7-13, 2018. This is a week to celebrate our nation's libraries and all of the wonderful library workers that make a difference in libraries every day.

As the ALA site shares,

This year’s theme, Libraries = Strong Communities, illustrates how today’s libraries are at the heart of our cities, towns, schools and campuses, providing critical resources, programs and expertise. They also provide a public space where all community members, regardless of age, culture or income level, can come together to connect and learn.
The 2019 National Library Week Honorary Chair is Melinda Gates.  I love this video as Melinda shares the importance of libraries and how they connect our communities.
Throughout the week, you will see there are special events on each day.  I can't wait for these daily celebrations!  Make sure you use the hashtags they mention when sharing how you will celebrate each day too.

Monday, April 8: State of America's Libraries Report released, including Top Ten Frequently Challenged Books of 2018.

Tuesday, April 9: National Library Workers Day, a day for library staff, administrators, and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers. #nlwd19

Wednesday, April 10: National Bookmobile Day, a day to recognize the contributions of our nation's bookmobiles and the dedicated professionals who make high-quality bookmobile outreach possible in their communities. #BookmobileDay2019

Wednesday, April 10: Library Giving Day is a one-day fundraising event with the goal of encouraging people who depend on and enjoy public libraries to donate to their individual library system. #LibraryGivingDay

Thursday, April 11: Take Action for Libraries Day, a day to speak up for libraries and share your library story. #MyLibraryMyStory.

Saturday, April 13 is Citizen Science Day, coinciding with the final day of National Library Week. SciStarter has a free guide for how libraries and library workers can get involved.
I have pulled together lots of resources, ideas, tools and other fun in the National School Week Collection by Destiny you will find here.   Please let me know what else we should add or if you would like to collaborate on this one with me.  I'd love to have you help.

Happy National Library Week, friends.

Thank you to all of the people that work in school, public, special and other types of libraries in our nation, and around the world.  You make a difference for the communities you serve and bring so much to the individuals within them.
