Hands-On Learning with the Chompsaw: Endless Possibilities Ahead!

On Friday, I went to Mrs. Braun's 2nd grade classroom for a little fun!

You see, this year we opened our Chompsaw Workshop.
I loved learning about the Chompsaw from my friends at STEMfinity last spring.   The Chompsaw is a kid-safe power tool for fun, learning, and creativity.  It cuts cardboard with ease while keeping fingers safe.  It opens up so many possibilities for creativity and collaboration, while bringing our students ideas to life.

You will find it here at STEMfinity.
I found an old AV cart to take our Chompsaw Workshop to the classrooms this year. On Friday, I took it to Mrs. Braun's classroom.
The kids were so excited to see me roll in with the Chompsaws.

We kicked things off by learning a little about how the Chompsaw works and how to safely use it with cardboard. Then, we put the students into groups of three, giving each group their very own Chompsaw to explore. Since this was their very first time with the Chompsaws, the goal was simple—create anything their imaginations could dream up.
Some of them sketched out their ideas...
...with a pencil on the cardboard.
While others, collaborated with their group and...
...got right to work.
It was so much fun to see the 2nd graders...
...creating things they loved,
and even working together to create pieces that fit together.
We worked for about 45 minutes this first time with the Chompsaws.
’m also excited to get together with Mrs. Braun to reflect on this first experience and start planning what’s next. I can already think of so many meaningful ways to tie the Chompsaws into the curriculum and upcoming projects this year,
giving our students even more opportunities to design, build, and create.
And I can't wait to hear what the kids want to do next with the Chompsaws.
After this amazing first experience with our Chompsaw Workshop,
I know the possibilities are endless for what they will dream up and create this year.
