My Review and Reflections of Our Literati Book Fair This Fall!

Two years ago, we hosted our very first Literati Book Fair at Van Meter Community School.  Ever since, our Literati Book Fairs have been a huge success with our families, teachers, and most of all, our students.

This fall, we hosted our Literati Galactic Adventures Book Fair and I am still thinking about this wonderful literacy event we hosted for our school community.

In this blog post, I would love to share my review and reflections of our fall 2024 Literati Book Fair experience. A lot of people have asked about our experiences at Van Meter so I hope is helpful as you explore Literati Book Fairs for your communities too.

First, I can't say enough about how great the communication is from the start.  Once you sign up for your Literati Book Fair, you will hear from a representative who will work with you to make your book fair a success.

They will share Literati's OpenBook which is filled with Book Fair Resources. This site includes tips, guidance, materials, and so much more.
You will also get a book fair box mailed to your school. One of the most helpful resources is the Literati Book Fair Guidebook and this is also filled with helpful tips from start to finish.  You can find this online in OpenBook too.

I carried the Guidebook around during the entire process of our book fair and followed the Book Fair Timeline, making notes and adding sticky notes throughout the booklet.  It's easy to follow and makes such a difference in running your book fair.

One more marketing piece I love and that really grabbed our readers attention are the Sneak Peek Videos for the two different grade levels.

These can be shared in the library and even shared with teachers and families to help rally excitement within our students.  After they watch the videos, they cannot wait for us to open the cases and start the book fair.
One of the biggest things that sets Literati apart from other companies is how easy it is to set up.

I am always impressed with this process from the moment they pull in to drop it off at our school. The delivery people are helpful and make sure it is right where it is suppose to be.

I will never forget the first time we opened up our Literati Book Fair. I couldn't believe how quickly it came together.  Once the cases came open, we popped the signs into the top, along with the book displays.  The cases are easy to maneuver and fit into our smaller library space.  It takes us about 45 minutes to set up our book fair.

Oh, and the color coded signs pointing out different types of books are genius as they make it easy for our students and families to find what they love to read.

This spring, I would love to have a poster that clearly displays these categories. I know everyone would appreciate those clues as they shop the book fair.
Speaking of shopping the book fair, check out a few of the most popular titles our readers loved this fall.

There is an amazing selection of books from over 150 different publishers. With the variety of books, there is definitely something for every reader.  There are lots of amazing value priced books that our readers love too.

It's the best to hear how happy they are with the books.

One of our youngest readers came up to me with Waiting For Mr. Sloth in their hand saying,

Mrs. Miller, I want this book because of the sloth on the front. I can't read it yet but my mom and dad can read it to me and my brother. And someday, I can read this book myself.

And when one of my colleagues and friends, Shelby, sent this to me one night, it just warmed my heart. Her little boy is one of our kindergarteners and he picked out A Bold Pumpkin Plan by Katy Hudson and Capstone. She said, he was over the moon to get this book and couldn't wait to read it and make a pumpkin plan of his own at home.

That is why we do what we do as librarians and teachers, and Literati Book Fairs can help us connect our readers to special books and experiences to grow and support their love of reading too.
I also have to mention that I really like how there is not loads of extra things at Literati Book Fairs. The things they have to complement the book fair pair perfectly with the books and reading.

Literati is always testing new, affordable options for students. This season, the glow-in-the-dark Book are Stellar bags were a giant hit with our kids and such a nice way for them to carry their books home.
With the variety and amount of books for our readers, along with the exciting and clever themes, our Literati Book Fairs have easily generated record breaking revenues for our school library.

And I can't forget to mention how fantastic the book fair rewards are with Literati. We can choose from book profit, Titlewave® credit, or cash reward. We can even do a mix of all three. How cool is that!
It's fun building and curating lists of books for our library. And it's even more fun having these Titlewave® credits to use throughout the year. They bring dozens and dozens of books to our readers.

As we look forward to our next Literati Book Fairs in the Spring 2025 and Fall 2025, I wonder what the...
...Literati Story Arcade Book Fair and...
....Literati Everglow Forest Book Fair will include for our readers. I know the marketing materials, communication, book selection, and promotional ideas will be so much fun and bring amazing experiences to everyone.

I couldn't be happier to have Literati Book Fairs at our school. We are very satisfied with everything Literati has to offer, and to recap, this includes:

*Quality and selection of books
*Ease of delivery and set up
*Revenue generated and reward options
*Marketing materials
*Communication with our Literati coordinator throughout the book fair

And the most important thing, our readers couldn't be more excited and happy to see Literati Book Fairs come to our school library twice a year.

It's CSEdWeek and Hour Of Code Week December 9-13, 2024...Here Are The 3 Coding Choice Boards & Lots of Resources For All Teachers and Students, TK-12!

We are excited to kick off Computer Science Education Week and Hour of Code next week on December 9-13, 2024 with our students at Van Meter.  We have celebrated this special event for the last several years and tie in coding and computer science to all of our grades at Van Meter throughout the entire year as well.
As we plan special coding activities for our students in TK through 12th grade, I started at the Hour of Code site that you can find here and..

It is filled with sites for all grade levels, with tons of help for teachers and families as we learn along with our young people too.
Take a look at a few of the amazing sites and resources on the Hour of Code site...
There are helpful descriptions and instructions with each site.

And everything is FREE for all of us to use!  How cool is that!

Over the last several weeks, I have been working on three coding choice boards to share and use with our school community and to share with all of you to use with yours too.
On this new Our Coding Choice Board TK-12 here to share with students and here to make a copy to edit.
And if you work with just elementary, you can use the Elementary Coding Choice Boards here to share with students and here to make a copy to edit.

Below, you will find a link to each where you can make a copy and changes of your own if you'd like.
Our Coding Choice Board TK-3 here to share with students and here to make a copy to edit.
Our Coding Choice Board 3-6 here to share with students and here to make a copy to edit

Our Coding Choice Board 6-12 here to share with students and here to make a copy to edit

I can't wait to see all that are kids learn, create and share about coding this month...and throughout the year.  I love seeing the little sparks and smiles coding brings.  I hope you bring coding to your community, families, classrooms and students too.

Introducing "Pass the Note"....A New FREE Tool From Follett Content To Help Librarians and Educators Easily Find and Share Books For Our Libraries and Classrooms! You Will Love It, Friends!

Our friends at Follett Content just released a free new tool called Pass the Note!

I couldn't wait to check this out as it will help us find and share books for our school or classroom library.
As they shared on the Pass the Note page from Follett Content,

Our mission is to empower the success of schools and get books in the hands of students. So, when your time and budget are limited, let us help you in your mission to get high-quality resources to your students with this free tool.

This is just what we need and I can't wait to show you more.

Let's get started, friends.
Pass the Note will help us...
...create resource lists and presentations from lists the Follett Content experts have created for our libraries and classrooms.  We have multiple formates to choose from including Presentation, Curricular Recommendations, and Reading Lists.
When we are ready to start browsing books and hands-on learning lists, just click Start Browsing and...
....it will take you to the Books and Hands-On Learning Lists for PreK-12 Education.

On this page, we can review the Topic Pages to find a list that fits our specific needs.  As you can see, there are so many essential and important topics to choose from on this page.

Let's pick one!
I clicked on Read-Aloud Books.
It opened up into the Read-Aloud Books for Grades 1-2.  On each topic page, there is information on the importance of this type of resource, which I find super helpful.  You will also see that you can do a lot within the page.
For example, you can pick a title and read all about the book, see reviews, find teacher resources, and more.
You can even add it to a Titlewave list.  I had a lot of fun using this topic list to do just that today.
Here is where Pass the Note! come into the picture!

On each topic list page, you will find this button that says Pass the Note!
When you click on that, this PDF exporter for books and hands-on learning resources gives you three options including Presentation, Recommend a Reading List for Students, and Provide Curriculum Recommendations.
I started with the Presentation....
...by selecting what books I wanted to include in the PDF presentation.
When I was done, I got a little note and went to my email to find...
...the presentation ready to go.  It included a title slide, information, and...
...the books I selected to include.  This will be so amazing to use as I present ideas for book titles and resources to my teachers, parent group, and others.
Next, I selected Recommend a Reading List for Students and built a reading list using the same type of...
...choices as the first one.
This is great for recommending books for students to read at home. I am going to create one to share with our families and students for the holiday break.
And the last one is Provide Curriculum Recommendations which builds a list of books to share with others when considering new titles for the classroom and that fit into the curriculum.
After selecting a few of the titles from the list,
...it created a great list of Curriculum Recommendations, and even includes...
Free Teacher Resources, reading levels, a summary, and more.

I love the little Notes box at the bottom too. That will be helpful as I use these lists as I collaborate and work with the teachers at my school.
I can't wait to share Pass the Note with our teachers in preschool-12th grade at my school.  This is going to be such a helpful and powerful tool for us in the library and classroom in so many ways, especially in getting wonderful books into the hands of our readers, into the classrooms, and onto the library shelves.

You can find Pass the Note, the NEW free tool from our friends at Follett Content, here.
