Little Free Library Project Kick Off At Van Meter!

We are excited about a new project we kicked off at Van Meter last week.  This is a special project that our four 2nd grade classrooms will be working on with our high school woods class.

Together, they will be designing, building and installing four Little Free Libraries outside and inside of our school in Iowa.
As shared on the Little Free Library site

Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world.
Through Little Free Library book exchanges, millions of books are exchanged each year, profoundly increasing access to books for readers of all ages and backgrounds.
To kick off this special PBL project, we got all of the 2nd graders and woods class together last week so we could learn more about Little Free Libraries and the project.
It was a honor to have Anita Merina, chair of its national board of directors, Skype with us to share more about the Little Free Library program...
... and how excited she was for all of us to get involved.
After our Skype with Anita, Mrs. Braun read the beautiful new picture book,
Little Libraries, Big Heroes by Miranda Paul and illustrated by John Parra.  This story tells the story of the late founder, Todd H. Bol, and how he started the Little Free Library movement.
We are gathering lots of resources on The Van Meter Little Free Library Project Padlet that you will find here

Everyone is very excited to get the Little Free Library underway and for what it will mean to our students, families and community.
