The 2026 ALA YMA Posters For Our Library Walls and Digital Spaces Are Here From Our Friends At Follett!

This time of year, after the new YMA (ALA Youth Media Awards) Award Books are announced, I order the books we don't already have and get ready to set up a special display to show all of these off in our library for our readers.

With these books, I love to display the YMA posters that our friends at Follett Content creates for us every year.  These bright and colorful posters filled with beautiful book covers represent five different YMA awards by displaying this years winner and several from the past too.

You can get the posters here on Follett's site where you can download them to print. You can print them in any size you would like.

There is an orange button that lets you Shop The Awards on Titlewave. I found this super useful when I was pulling together the new award books for our library.  You can find it here on Titlewave
I also started a Bitmoji Room with these posters hanging on the wall.  If you would like to use this, you can make a copy here

Join Us For This Special New Follett Content Webinar...Bloom Where You're Planted: Re-Energizing School and Public Library Programs!

I am excited for this special new Follett Content webinar, Bloom Where You're Planted: Re-energizing School and Public Library Programs.

As the school year winds down and summer planning ramps up, it’s easy for even the most passionate librarians to feel stretched thin. This timely, conversation-style session is designed to help you pause, reflect, and re-energize—without adding more to your plate.
Designed for both school librarians and public librarians, this webinar offers targeted, practical ideas for each setting—while also highlighting how collaboration between school and public libraries can strengthen engagement, continuity, and community impact.

Join Shannon McClintock Miller, Van Meter School Librarian and Future Ready Librarians® spokesperson, and Jonatha Basye, Director of the Van Meter Public Library (IA), as they share real-world strategies from both perspectives and model what meaningful school–public library collaboration can look like in action.

In this session, each audience will receive ideas tailored to their unique role:

• School librarians will explore ways to sustain momentum through the end of the school year, engage students in spring reading, and plant early seeds for summer reading and a strong fall start.
• Public librarians will gain strategies for preparing for summer reading, welcoming families already familiar with the library, and connecting programming back to the school year.

At the same time, Shannon and Jonatha will show how working together across school and public libraries can amplify impact—through shared themes, aligned messaging, collaborative programming, and relationship-building that benefits students, families, and the broader community.

The session will wrap with rapid-fire inspiration and simple actions you can take right away.

You can register here, friends.

We look forward to you joining us!

A Must-Have in Every Educator’s Toolbox...The Achievery! A Free Learning Tool for Every School Community!

As we kick off a new year, I have been sharing a "tool box" of my favorite digital tools, apps and resources with our teachers, students, and families.

At the top of this list is one of my all-time favorites, The AchieveryThis is a free digital learning platform, designed by education experts for teachers, families, and students.
As shared on The Achievery,

A FREE online platform created by AT&T, The Achievery connects K-12 students to a new world of digital learning through stories that spark curiosity and content that entertains and educates.

Designed by education experts, The Achievery offers 7 subject categories and over 1000 videos, all paired with learning activities that can be accessed at home, in the classroom, and in their communities.

The Achievery is ad-free and available at no cost to everyone.

I have been using The Achievery since the beginning and am always so impressed with the ongoing new additions and features they add throughout the year.

In fact, there are several NEW amazing features that I am very excited about this fall.
There is a refreshed look and feel to The Achievery.  When you click on Explore the menu at the top, a drop down menu now gives you three different options.
In Watch and Teach, you can Explore Units and Explore Courses.
As you Explore Units, you will find lesson plans and learning activities.  I appreciate how I can use the search features to narrow down what I am looking for by title, grade level, category, activity type, and even collaborator.

This is very helpful as a teacher librarian as I collaborate with all of the teachers in my district.  It is also helpful in my work as I look for lesson plans and learning activities around digital literacy, AI, and other topics.
There are also several new Interactive Units available.
One of my favorite new additions are the Courses.  These are sets of lessons and activities designed to help students learn or improve specific skills or knowledge.  They are organized to guide them step by step within each Course.  These are available to all users and there is no login required.
Let's take a look at one I found to use with my students called Smart and Safe Online created by Media Smarts.  Through interactive lessons, students will learn how to navigate with confidence. They also practice questioning what they see through images and news, and build fact-checking strategies. By the end, students will be prepared to make smart, safe, and responsible choices online.
Students work through several lessons within each Course and complete activities around each section.
In Define Your Focus, you can Explore Topics and Explore Partners.  It's very helpful to scroll through these menus and find what you want to focus on within The Achievery.  I love being able to pull up everything created by the specific partners and always find exiting new things.
And lastly, under the menu is Campus where you will find your Profile, Favorites, Activity, Notes, Courses and Help.
I went into my Achievery Campus so I could see what our students will see as we get back in as school starts.

The first thing I clicked on was My Activity, which shows the Learning Units Completed, Videos Watched, and Favorite Learning Units.
Next is My Courses, which gives you a summary of courses in process and completed.

You can also click on Favorites to view your favorites.  Look for the little heart by each lesson to bookmark them to your Favorites.
I really like the My Notes feature too. This is a teacher feature.  You can add private notes to the units you plan to use with your class.  Look for the pencil icon to add your ideas, notes and plans.  You can revisit your notes anything through your Achievery Campus.
Oh, and don't forget to personalize your profile avatar. That's a fun new feature!
Right next to Profile, you can choose English or Spanish, and the first five state standards (TX, GA, FL, CA, and IL) are now available.
The last new feature I would love to highlight are the Interactive Video Units.

There are currently four available that dive into cybersecurity with interactive videos that challenge students to engage, think critically, and respond in real time. I am excited to use these with our students this year.
You can sign up for your FREE Achievery account here.  Please invite your fellow colleagues and families to join.  It is FREE for everyone.

There is something for every grade level, subject, interest, and more in The Achievery It's an incredible way to enhance students' learning experiences through interactive, engaging, and exciting learning experiences.
The Achievery also supports us as Future Ready Librarians as we Build Instructional Partnerships, Advocates for Student Privacy, Cultivates Community Partnerships, Leads Beyond the Library and more. You can find out more about the NEWLY updated Future Ready Librarians 3.0 Framework here.

As you can see everyone needs The Achievery in their tool box. I know you will love using this amazing digital platform with your school community this year too.

The 2026 Winter Olympics Choice Board Is Here! Get Your Copy Here, Friends.

It's almost time for the 2026 Winter Olympics.  We are planning all kinds of special activities, including an Opening Ceremony at our school.

I also put together The 2026 Winter Olympics Choice Board.  It is filled with...
...resources about the history of the Olympics, information about Italy and Milano Cortina, amazing resources about the 2026 Winter Olympics, and lots of Capstone Interactive eBooks, PebbleGo articles, reading and digital activities, and more.

There are pages you can use like they are,
...and pages you will add links and make changes for your students.

For example, on these pages I used PebbleGo and Capstone Interactive eBooks. If you have those resources, just add your own links to the images.  Or change them out for resources you have.
I love this page with resources from the official Olympics website.  Our kids will love learning all about the different Olympic winter spots and venues.

On the last page, there are lots of fun Olympic activities.  And I created The Reading Olympics choice board for this page too.

You will find The Reading Olympics Choice Board here to make your own copy.  You can add resources that you have in your library and community.

I love having resources like our Symbaloo, Book Creator, EPIC, and Capstone Interactive eBooks.

I will share more about our Opening Ceremony and the activities for the day in another post tomorrow.

I hope the choice boards and ideas help you as you celebrate the 2026 Olympics in your libraries, classrooms, and communities too.

Sign Up Today For The NEW Follett Software Webinar, What ROI Means to a Librarian (and How AI Helps Me Achieve It)!

I am excited for a NEW webinar I am hosting with Follett Software, What ROI Means to a Librarian (and How AI Helps Me Achieve It). This one is on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at 2:00pm CST.

When school leaders talk about ROI, they usually mean dollars and data. But for librarians like me, return on investment means something different: more time with students, a more engaging library experience, and stronger support for classroom instruction.

In this webinar, join me as I share how we use emerging AI tools to save time, stay organized, and stay focused on the work that really matters. I'll offer real-life strategies to help librarians:

  • Cut through the clutter and spend more time with students
  • Use AI to simplify scheduling, collection development, and communication
  • Discover new ways to personalize the library experience

We’ll also explore how AI-powered tools are helping school libraries become more responsive, student-centered spaces—without adding more to your plate.

And don't worry if you can't attend live.  Everyone who registers will receive the links and resources after the webinar too.
