We are always looking for ways to encourage and nurture creativity within our students.
Not only do we want them to engage in activities we design, we want them to showcase their own knowledge through creative storytelling, activities and projects, too.
Well, I have something that will bring us both!
By using Ormiboard, students can interact with lessons that are created for them, and also build their own interactive boards as part of a class project around a lesson, holiday or absolutely anything.
They can even share their creations with classmates, parents and others using their boards’ URL.
How cool is that?
If you remember from my post Turn Your Classroom Into A Giant Interactive Whiteboard With Ormiboard, this digital whiteboarding tool lets teachers create and collaborate with students using any device.
It literally puts an interactive whiteboard into the hands of all our students in the library, classroom and home.
Think about using Ormiboard for a holiday such as Halloween.
Let me show you how!
First, I want you to click on this link. It will take you to the Build Your Own Jack-O-Lantern interactive board.
Give it a try....the directions are at the bottom of the board.
We had so much fun moving the shapes around...
...to create our very own Jack-O-Lantern.
Now I want to show you how to interact with an editable board.
Let’s try it out by logging into Ormiboard here.
Once logged in, you will click on Create or join a session in the middle of the screen.
Next, click on Join an exciting session and...
Type in RV37B.
You will be able to interact with this board and make it your own. Follow the directions at the top as you sing Five Little Pumpkins (lyrics included on the bottom).
You can see that I am getting ready to draw my witch and I found a pumpkin pie in the Images.
This board encourages listening, speaking and comprehension skills as kids sing the song and then draw a witch, pumpkin pie and other things they want to add.
Wouldn't your students think this was fun?
As teachers, creating interactive boards is a wonderful way to celebrate special events throughout the year and there are a couple different ways to share these with your students.
Boards can be shared in Interactive Mode and Edit Mode.
Interactive Mode allows students to interact with the board, but they cannot edit.
The Jack-O-Lantern board you tried in the beginning was in the interactive mode. You can try this one again here.
Edit Mode allows students to edit their own unique copy of the board to edit, save and share.
If you want your own copy of the Jack-O-Lantern board, join my session and save. The session code is TD37A.
Now, let me show you how students can build their own interactive boards, too. This is where they can really show us what they know and showcase their creativity in a fun, new way.
As they create an interactive board, lots of different things can be added using the toolset which floats over the space.
They can add Shapes,
Clipart which includes....
Symbols, Objects, Nature and...
At the bottom of the interactive board, they can click on the pink circle with a plus to see...
all of the different layouts or templates they can choose from.
They can also add multiple boards by clicking on the 1. This will add as many boards as they want.
To play, they just click on the arrow in the grey circle.
They can change a few of the settings down in the right-hand corner.
It might be helpful for them to turn on the Grid as they are creating.
Once their board is complete, they will click on Save, also in the bottom right-hand corner.
Now they are ready to share their board in interactive mode with friends, teachers and family.
To do this, they will go to the homepage under My Boards, click on the board and select Open.
Once the board is open, just have them copy the URL from the browser and share it with family and friends.
I am sure your wheels are spinning now.
It is your turn to think of a creative project you can ask your students to do using Ormiboard.
We would LOVE to hear what you come up. Please share your ideas and students work as comments on this post at the bottom.
By using Ormiboard, students can interact with lessons that you create for them, and can also build their own interactive boards as part of a class project around a lesson or holiday.
Ormiboard definitely inspires creativity and interactive play. It brings so much fun to learning that your students will ask for more of these amazing experiences.
And you will love when they do!
