A Fun and Educational Augmented Reality Activity For Earth Day From Our Friends At Quiver!

Earth Day is this week on April 22 and I am excited to share lots of books, eBooks, PebbleGo, Pear Deck activities and other technology activities that I will share on my blog throughout the week.

Oh, and the Earth Day Choice Board too!

To kick it off, on Monday morning I am meeting with our first graders for an Earth Day PebbleGo Create activity (I will share tomorrow on my blog) and we will end it with a fun activity from our friends at Quiver.

On the Quiver site, there is a special Earth Day page here with the augmented reality coloring sheet and...
...the Quiver Activity Plan, Restore Our Earth Design Challenge.

Let me show you how it works!
Download the Earth Day Quiver coloring sheet and have your students color inside of the circle.

They could color what Earth Day means to them; what they want to do to make the Earth a better place; a scene from a book they read or something they saw outside; or even the Restore Our Earth Design Challenge.
Once they are done, have them scan the Quiver coloring sheet with the Quiver app available from the Apple App Store or Google Play

Once scanned, they will see the coloring sheet in augmented reality, bringing their creation to life.

There are a few buttons at the bottom of the screen. When Facts is clicked, it brings up information about Earth Day. They can even listen to it.

When they click on the colored squiggle, it brings up Earth. When they move the iPad around, they can view the entire Earth.

The magnifying class allows them to zoom in to see the Earth in closer detail.

The camera lets them take a picture of their screen or download the image.

I can't wait to do the Quiver Earth Day activity with our first graders and other grades this week at Van Meter.  I will print off a bunch of them tomorrow and have them available for other teachers to pick up and use too.
If you don't already have a Quiver subscription, you can get a free trial here to try out this awesome activity and lots of others.

And don't forget to check out the Quiver Educational Dashboard that is live now and full of engaging, interesting and important topics for all ages and subjects.  It's one of my favorites!

Have a great time celebrating Earth Day, friends.
