Kicking Off The New School Year Collaborating With Our Teachers At The Back-to-School Library Celebration!

We have been on summer holiday since May 20....almost 8 weeks ago. That means we have 4 weeks now until school starts again at Van Meter.

As I thought about our schedule this week, I knew it was time to start planning my time with our teachers as we get ready for a brand new school year.

Over the years, I have tried a lot of different ways to share library resources, procedures and celebrations with our teachers during those days of professional development before school starts. I always want to make it fun, light and useful for everyone. I also include things they can take back to their classrooms and put to use on the very first day.

This year, I am trying something totally new. Instead of the meeting with all of elementary and all of secondary, I will be meeting with each grade level and content team preschool to 12th grade on the Friday before school starts.

This will give me a chance to share new books, online resources, our exciting new Library Take Out and BOOKHUB delivery service, technology options, keyboarding and coding resources, and more.  It will also be a way for me to hear the teachers needs and discuss how we can partner to support reading, learning, research and digital citizenship this year.
I created a header in Canva and downloaded the image to use in the Google Document I created for teachers to sign up for their time.
I love how this type of sign up gives teachers and others a lot of choice on when they sign up as a team.

Collaboration is one of the most important parts of what we do as teacher librarians. To kick off the year showing that we are partners, will help us work together to meet the needs of all learners and make it the best year together.
