Empowering Young Digital Explorers—My New Book Series is Here!

 

Happy Book Birthday to my new series, ISTE Digital Explorers!  

I have been working on this project with my friends at ISTE and Capstone for the last year and couldn't wait for this day to get here. They made their debut at the ISTE/ASCD Annual Conference in San Antonio in June and officially came out today, August 1st. 

The ISTE Digital Explorers series includes characters from my first book, Sonia's Digital World.  In this new early chapter book series, Sonia, Hagan, Brianna and their friends have grown up to take on new adventures. 

These young digital explorers use technology to learn, grow, connect, and dream! Written by award-winning librarian, author, and international speaker Shannon McClintock Miller and created in partnership with the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), each story in the ISTE Digital Explorers early chapter book series focuses on one ISTE standard in a relatable way. Young readers will be inspired to engage with technology in thoughtful, responsible, and innovative ways to supercharge their ideas. 

I created a new website for the series and you can find it at istedigitalexplorers.com. 

It includes the ISTE Digital Explorers Educator's Guide that we created to support the first four books in the series. 

There are extension activities we created for each book that include tools like PebbleGo Animals, Book Creator, Scratch, Tinkercad, Merge and more. 

You will find the new poster to support the ISTE Student Standards, I Am A Digital Explorer. 

This is the perfect addition to all libraries and classrooms as we kick off the new school year.

I am also very excited about several extension activities for ISTE Digital Explorers with partners and friends. 

I teamed up with my friends at Book Creator to create an accompanying set of companion activity books that will help bring the lessons and books to life.

I collaborated with my friends at Kami to create templates and activities to support each book. You will find these FREE activities for ISTE Digital Explorers and Sonia's Digital World in the Kami Library here.

And my friends at Merge created the Jack's Playground Plan Extension Activity that uses Tinkercad and a Merge Cube. You will find this super cool extension activity here.

There are three more books in the series coming out in 2026, and there will be lots of new activities, projects, and resources that support and extend the learning for all of the books. 

I can't wait to start using them with my students this year. I will make sure to share with all of you too.
