Little Whale...A Beautiful New Story Of Family, Home and Love

From the moment I opened up this package from Peachtree Publishers, I was memorized and in love with this beautiful story of parental love and home.
The large monochromatic charcoal illustrations...
....the amazing Jo Weaver created to tell this story of Gray Whale and her baby, Little Whale, long migration and journey to their family....
will capture the attention of your readers and be a favorite.
As shared in the release from Peachtree,

Little Whale and Gray Whale swim under midnight skies and through coral reefs teeming with life as they migrate to the cool, rich waters of the north to feed.  Gray Whale gently guides her baby long the way, keeping Little Whale safe from passing ships and dangerous predators.  At long last, the echo of a whale song calls to them through icy water and the know...
they are home.

I have read Little Whale several times and every time I get to the end, I can feel the peace and security the whales feel by being home after their long journey.
Jo includes a short paragraph about the migration of gray whales in the back of the book. She shares that they travel up to 12,400 miles every year.  This is the longest migration path taken by any mammal, which makes the story of Little Whale even more fascinating.
To extend the learning with children, Capstone has a wonderful article about Gray Whales in PebbleGo Animals

They can read, listen,

share what they know and...

...even label the different parts of the gray whale.  PebbleGo is perfect to pair with this book.
You can visit Jo Weaver's site here.  She is also the author and illustrator of Little One.

Little Whale is available October 1, 2018 from Peachtree Publishers.  You can read more about this special new book and how to preorder it here

I know your students will love Little Whale as much as I did.  I can't wait to share it with our students this year too!
