In February we celebrate Black History Month. As History.com states,
Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. History.
With all of these wonderful individuals and events to celebrate during Black History Month, our friends at Storyboard That have brought us amazing project ideas to create with our students.
They have created Martin Luther King activity suggestions for English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies classes, along with other ideas throughout their website and resources.
You can find the activities here.
My favorite activity idea they shared on this page is the Black History Month quilt. How cool is this....and it brings together so many wonderful images that represent this celebration. This idea can be used with any subject or topic as well.....one that I remember for a project in the future too.
Next on this page, they have put Black History Month Classroom Exercises together for....
Grades K-5....
Grades 6-8...
and Grades 9-12.
In addition to the activities, Storyboard That brought together an extensive list of Important African American Figures that will help when creating, brainstorming and researching during Black History Month and throughout the year.
