Part 1...10 Ways To Kick Off The New Year With Biblionasium...."GoodReads For Kids"!

 

We start a new school year today!  I am so excited to be back with our students and teachers. 

As I shared last week on my blog, one of the programs that we use to kick off back to school time every year is Biblionasium or as we like to call it...."GoodReads for Kids".

This year, I couldn't be more excited to share with my teachers and students that we now have the School-Wide Version of Biblionasium. This will offer a great value and opportunity to foster a culture of reading that permeates across grades and through the school community.  It will help us create an engaging and exciting reading culture with all students, and again one we will go back to year after year.

For the next three weeks, I will share 10 Ways To Kick Off The New Year With Biblionasium with the NEW school-wide version in a three-part blog post series. This is how we do it at Van Meter and I can't wait to share these ideas with you.

1. Have students set up their bookshelves with their favorite books to generate excitement. 

This is definitely one of their favorite things to do in Biblionasium. 

They take such pride in setting up their bookshelves with books they want to read, favorite books, finished books, and books they own themselves. 

There is also a place to add books to a Wish List. 

2. Have students make a book recommendation, or more, to 3 friends, or more. 

Oh yes! Another super fun thing to do within Biblionasium and one that our readers love!  I mean who doesn't love recommending books to friends. 

They can choose any friend they'd like to recommend a book to using Recommend It. After they select the book, it will prompt them to pick a friend and also what they'd like to add for a note. 

                             

3. Have students write a book review of a favorite book. 

And of course, they all love this part of Biblionasium too!  

When I teach them about Review It in Biblionasium, our students tell me they feel like they are in their very own social network. Biblionasium creates a safe online reading community for all students to review and recommend books to classmates and a place to share their reading lives in a positive and meaningful way.

As they review more and more books throughout the year, they like to look back at the books they've read to see what they wrote about the books too.
