Last week we had Back-To-School Night for all of our students and their families. This is a time to meet the teachers, check out their classrooms and bring their school supplies, see friends and more.
It's also an awesome time for them to come to the library and other special places throughout the school. This year, we are excited to be adding a NEW S.T.E.A.M. program and room to Van Meter, so that was a very special part of Back-To-School Night.
My friend and colleague, Megan Algreen, is our new S.T.E.A.M. teacher. We are so excited to have her in this role at our school. As we were collaborating and planning for the school year and back-to-school night, we both created a poster welcoming our students and families to the library and S.T.E.A.M. room on that night.
As you can see from the posters above, there was fun and engaging literacy and S.T.E.A.M. activity stations set up in both places. They are focused around books, Ozobots, MERGE Cubes and augmented reality, bookmark creating, sidewalk chalk, designing and building on the pegboard and LEGO walls, adding stickers to the Dot! Dot! Dot! StickTogether poster and more.
In case you would like to check out our stations, here are the S.T.E.A.M. Room Stations (you can make a copy of this to make your own changes) and...
And one of the MOST important parts, meeting everyone in the library and S.T.E.A.M. programs. My library partners, Brittany Marks (who is NEW and awesome too!) and Diana Hockenberry, were also in the library,
along with our public librarian, Nancy, who is new to our community.
Feel free to use any of these ideas in your library, Makerspace and S.T.E.A.M. room too, friends.
