The Day I Spent In London With Cressida Cowell....Join Us For The Special Broadcast Too!

Last week, libraries, classrooms and communities around the world tuned in to watch the How To Train Your Dragon Broadcast with Cressida Cowell, author and illustrator of the How To Train Your Dragon series.  I was so excited to be part of the day too!
It was very special being part of the How To Train Your Dragon Broadcast with Skype in the Classroom, Microsoft, Little Brown and of course, Cressida.
On Wednesday, my school in Van Meter, Iowa, celebrated by getting the students together in a few of the...
 classrooms and watching over...
donuts and juice...
...at breakfast and....
...throughout other parts of the day and...
week.
And it sure was fun seeing how my family, along with lots of teacher and librarian friends around the world were....

... celebrating with their schools and communities too!

Our students and lots of you have lots of questions about that special day, so I wanted to share a few pictures for a little behind the scenes view!
I went to London for the very first time. The morning of the broadcast, my friend, Iro, met me at the hotel for our....
...ride to the....
...Microsoft Office in London. After walking by where they work on Minecraft and other cool things,
we walked into the studio where we would spend our day.
It was so fun being with my friends Iro and Kelly for the day, along with a really nice....
makeup artist, producers, a film crew and more.
Of course, the most special part was meeting Cressida and learning about the amazing story behind her How To Train Your Dragon series and life as a writer and illustrator.
I loved hearing her tell stories about thinking of the ideas when she was a little girl growing up in England and how she wrote and sketched in these books that she brought. It reminded me of how my sister, Heather, and I played outside, imagined and created all kinds of books of our own as kids in Iowa.
Seeing Cressida draw was really exciting!
I couldn't wait to share that with my students and when she drew during the broadcast last week,
our students in Van Meter and so many other places around the world, created amazing drawings of Hiccup and Toothless too!
I even brought Cressida a Molly Doll that my friend and Van Meter 5th grader, Molly, created for Cressida. She loved how the Molly Doll looked like her!
If you didn't make the live event, you can watch it here and don't forget....
...there are lots of resources and activities for all of us to use, including the videos where Cressida teaches us how to draw her characters and even speak dragonese.
It was one of the best days in London being with Cressida and the people from Skype in the Classroom, Microsoft for Education and Little Brown.  Thank you for this experience and to all of my friends, family and students for spending the day with us!
