Celebrate Read For The Record With Nigel and the Moon...And All Of These Amazing Events, Resources and Fun.

One of our favorite days to celebrate every year is Jumpstart's Read for the Record.

This year on October 27, 2022, we will be celebrating by reading Nigel and the Moon by Antwan Eady and illustrated by Gracey Zhang.

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is a global moment to raise awareness around the critical importance of early literacy and increase access to high-quality children’s books. Each year Read for the Record brings together millions of adults and children as they read the same book on the same day, building an intergenerational community through reading. To date, over 24 million people have participated in Read for the Record, and hundreds of thousands of high-quality books have been distributed to children in underserved communities across the United States.

On October 27, 2022,  join us in reading Nigel and the Moon written by Antwan Eady and illustrated by Gracey Zhang.

Nigel and the Moon is about a young boy who dreams big, but is too scared to share his dreams with the world. Instead, every night he tells his dream of becoming an astronaut, dancer, and superhero to the moon. As his class moves through career week, Nigel’s community helps him build up confidence in who he is. This book encourages children to celebrate where they come from, who they are, and who they want to be. Nigel and the Moon is published by HarperCollins.

You will find Activity Guides and Virtual Resources that go along with Nigel and the Moon here.
Each guide includes such wonderful resources, tips and suggestions. There are guides and activities for educators,
families and...
...special storytime events.
And guess what? Our friends at Novel Effect have a soundscape and wonderful activity plan on their site here.

Using Novel Effect for Read for the Record will be such a special way to read and share Nigel and the Moon. I can't wait to share it with the teachers and students.

I find this such an exciting part of Read for the Record as we are pledging to support reading and learning for all students. I hope you pledge to read for Read for the Record too, friends.
