Dot Day 2018 Is Here! Look How We Are Celebrating & How You Can Too!

With Dot Day right around the corner on September 15, we have kicked off our celebrations in the Van Meter Library!
We have been reading The Dot and...
watching...
...The Dot on Bookflix,
while talking about how we all have the unique opportunity to make our mark on the world.
One of our favorite activities for Dot Day is making dots using coffee filters.
 After the kids,
talk about what makes them unique and special,
they decorate their coffee filter dot with markers.
We just love all of the special and unique....
...dots that we see!
When they have finished, we spray them with water to make beautiful watercolor type dots that will become part of a display we keep up and celebrate all year long.
We also kicked off our Dot Day Flipgrid last week and will continue to have our students and teachers add to over the next week.
We even introduced our super cool Flipgrid pod for giving them a private place to record if they'd like.
They would LOVE it if you and your community added to the Dot Day Flipgrid too!

All you have to do is go to flipgrid.com/90287d and the password is dotday2018.

Let's fill up this Flipgrid up to celebrate Dot Day by sharing how we are making our mark on the world.
We added it to all of the classes Symbaloo's to make it extra easy to get to the Dot Day Flipgrid.

As we go into the week before Dot Day, we will make connections all throughout the week with others around the world.  YOU can too...It isn't too late.

When making these plans and connections, my friends Andy Plemmons and Matthew Winner, along with myself, put together this collaborative Dot Day Google Doc each year so we can start sharing our schedules and connecting the dots with others.
Please join us in celebrating Dot Day by joining in on the fun and connecting your own dots at the Google Doc that you will find here.

You can add your schedule, grade levels, locations and any other information that will be helpful as you make Dot Day plans.
Here are a few helpful resources to make your Dot Day extra special too!
I brought together all kinds of resources, songs, project ideas, books and other fun in this Dot Day Collection.  You will find it here.
Look at all of these wonderful books about Dots!  Please add others with dots to the Padlet here too.
You can also follow the Dot Day Pinterest Board, which we continue to add resources too.

I can't wait to celebrate Dot Day with all of you this week.  This is such a special way to kick off a new year of creating, connecting and collaborating within our libraries, communities and with others around the world.
