5 Tips To Support Reading & Singing At Home With The Start Of The School Year

School started for Hagan and all the cousins in our family today.

School also started for lots and lots of friends, teacher librarians and educators around the world.
This summer Hagan and I spent a lot of time reading.  He picked up two great lists from his teachers at the end of the year.  In fact, we have been doing a lot of reading for Battle of the Books which has been really fun.

With school kicking off, it is time for all educators to think about how to support our students and their families at home too.

Our students will come to the library to check out books.

They will learn how to read in their classrooms.
And they will be excited to bring home books like this to share, sing and read together with their families.
Cantata Learning has created Five Tips To Support Literacy At Home which would be perfect for you to share with all families, teachers and even students at the beginning of the new year.
Cantata points out the importance of why reading and singing at home with your child is so important.
It is very important for their development to read and sing at least 20 minutes a day starting when they are born.  If you do this from birth to age 5, your child will have 600 hours of essential pre-literacy experience before entering school.

Once in school, it is essential to continue the read-aloud habit throughout the elementary school years...and beyond.

Hagan and I love reading together.  This is something that has not only helped him academically, but has fostered that lifelong love of reading with an activity that is very special to us.
The songs and books from Cantata Learning are perfect for this daily storytime at home.

With the beautiful illustrations, educational and engaging stories, and upbeat and fun music, these songs and books bring so much to any home and family.
We have put together five tips for using Cantata Learning books and songs during your daily storytime.
