Look What Is New With Rosen Publishing's Teen Health & Wellness!

One of my favorite databases to use with young people Teen Health & Wellness from Rosen Publishing.  You just have to check it out too!
As the homepage states, The award-winning Teen Health & Wellness provides middle and high school students with nonjudgemental, straightforward, curricular, and self-help support.  Articles are correlated to state, national, and provincial standards, including Common Core Health and Science. Topics covered include diseases, drugs, alcohol, nutrition, mental health, suicide, bullying, LGBTQ issues and more.
This year Teen Health & Wellness is better than ever with several new updates and additions for 2015!
I loved trying out the Text-to-Speech features and really enjoyed the new personal stories and video PSAs.
The Teen Health & Wellness Teen Hotlines apps are free.  You can download them here too
The resources that Teen Health & Wellness contain are amazing!

I love the stories from teens, videos that are found within the articles, Dr. Jan's Corner, voting opportunities, In The News features, the Personal Story Project, and It's Your Cause Video Challenge.  There is something for every middle and high school age student here.
And for teacher librarians and educators, the resources and support available is awesome!  Just look at everything Rosen has developed to support the use of this database within the library, classroom and school community.

Below is a letter from Miriam at Rosen Publishing sharing this amazing news with all of us.

At the bottom, you can go to teenhealthandwellness.com by using the username and password within this letter.

I just know you will enjoy seeing what is new and checking out this incredible resource for our middle and high school aged students too.

Dear Friends

Like proud parents, we arthrilled to share the redesigned and fully updated Teen Health & Wellness.

From its initial creation, Teen Health & Wellness has been a community effort fueled and informed by committed educators worldwide. From San Diego to Edmonton, Des Moines to Kuala Lumpur, and Fairbanks to Fulton, Teen Health & Wellness has served teens and those who care about them for eight years. Reimagined and relevant, the new Teen Health & Wellness will continue to play a key role in nurturing safe, caring learning communities.

Our extraordinary Rosen Digital team has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver the familiar functionality and trusted content that students, teachers, and librarians rely on, with a fresh, new design making content even more accessible and discoverable.

Publishing balanced, sensitive material for teens is embedded in Rosen's DNA, from our first book (and the first of its kind published in the United States) on venereal disease for teens in the late '50s. Now, as then, Rosen is committed to creating t
een-friendly content that makes complex topics understandable and gives insight into the teen experience--crucial for parents, teachers, librarians, therapists, and all who love and support teens.

The theme of social justice rang through ALA. We are proud that the new Teen Health & Wellness includes content on some of society's most urgent yet hard to discuss issues: gender identity/being a transgender teen, human trafficking, and FGC (female genital cutting). The urgency to include FGC arose from conversations with Dr. Jewel Mullen, Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Public Health. Her introduction to the article frames the importance and necessity of its inclusion.

Features of Note:
  • Articles updated for 2015, with new content on gender identity, FGC, stalking, and human trafficking.
  • New, modern homepage invites exploration. Redesigned article pages enhance readability while delivering our standard-setting, high-quality content.
  • Digital storytelling opportunities for teens, including personal stories and video PSAs. Now, teens can provide a soundtrack to their videos with our royalty-free music library!

  • Consistent user experience across computers, tablets, and mobile devices.
