School started for Hagan and all the cousins in our family today.
School also started for lots and lots of friends, teacher librarians and educators around the world.
This summer Hagan and I spent a lot of time reading. He picked up two great lists from his teachers at the end of the year. In fact, we have been doing a lot of reading for Battle of the Books which has been really fun.
With school kicking off, it is time for all educators to think about how to support our students and their families at home too.
Our students will come to the library to check out books.
They will learn how to read in their classrooms.
Once in school, it is essential to continue the read-aloud habit throughout the elementary school years...and beyond.
Hagan and I love reading together. This is something that has not only helped him academically, but has fostered that lifelong love of reading with an activity that is very special to us.
With the beautiful illustrations, educational and engaging stories, and upbeat and fun music, these songs and books bring so much to any home and family.
You will find these in the wonderful poster above and also in this post from their blog...Tips To Share With Parents To Help Them Support Literacy At Home.
printable PDF of Read and Sing Every Day at the bottom of the post.
Please feel free to print this off and send home with to all families in your school community.
And celebrate literacy this year like never before! It is something that will truly make a difference in the lives of our children.
