Sing, Research, Create and More For "Endangered Species Day"....Cantata Learning Has The Perfect Book Too!

There is a very special day being celebrated this week.
On May 20, it is Endangered Species Day.
This is an opportunity for people of all ages to learn about the importance of protecting engaged species and everyday actions they can take to help protect them.
On the website, you will be able to Find An Event Near You, Register and Download The Toolkit.
The Toolkit is filled with wonderful resources including Activity Book, Masks, Brochures, Posters and more.

I love the Passport to Discovery activity. They have provided the directions for using this and...
the passport that you can download to print off. It would be so much fun for students to research engaged animals and then use this passport as they share them with each other during your Endangered Species Day.

You can find the passport here.
You will find several Resources on this page too.
One that caught my eye was the Send an Endangered Animal eCard.
When I clicked on it, there are three options and one is the polar bear.

It is very easy for students to send these greetings and reminders to friends and family.  They can even write a brief message.

A wonderful tie in for this would be to have students actually use what they have learned about these animals in their message.
They could use Capstone's PebbleGo to research polar bears and other engaged animals.  There is terrific information here including pictures, videos and other activities that tie into the information.
One of my favorite books about polar bears is from Cantata Learning.  It is called The Polar Bear and Penguin Will Never Meet! Polar Animals and just happens to be the Cantata Song of the Week

Like all Cantata books, this is paired with special music that you will find in the back of the book on a CD and online.

You can find this book and song here.

To go along with the research, learning and writing, there are also dozens of creative projects out there.  Look at a few of the blog posts I found featuring these projects....

There are lots of ways to celebrate Endangered Species Day and don't forget to check out local events around you too.  This is one at the Denver Zoo on May 20.
